Myles Davis Opening Statement

Let me first define the proposition, “The Torah is no longer binding for Christians today.” I believe that we as Christians today are not under the Old Law/Testament. I also believe that unless we see any of the Torah repeated in the New Law/Testament we are not to practice it.

For those of you who don’t know what the “Torah” is, I acquired this quote from Mr. Bugg’s website, “In its most limited sense, "Torah" refers to the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. But the word "torah" can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible (the body of scripture known to non-Jews as the Old Testament and to Jews as the Tanakh or Written Torah), or in its broadest sense, to the whole body of Jewish law and teachings.

I don’t believe we can’t learn form the Old Law or that we should just throw it away, rather that we should use it for study purposes not to practice from it.

Example: Before 1775 the thirteen colonies of the United States were under the law of Britain, but from 1775-1783 there was bloodshed and after the war we where no longer under the British law, but under the law of the Untied States.

Now are there things from the British law that was put into the United States’ law?

Yes, but does that make it the British law? No and, I can’t say that we are under the British law because we where before 1775.

Same with the Bible, God enforced a Law for man called the Old Law or Old Testament, but then there was bloodshed (by Jesus Christ) and then by that bloodshed, God put us under the New Law/Testament. Now are there things from the Old Law that are put into the New Law? Yes, but does that make it the Old Law? No and I cannot say we are under the Old Law because people before Christ’s death were.

Question for Michael:

1. Can I say that the United States should have a King and Queen because we were under monarch in 1774? (That would be taking a part of the British law and putting it into the United States’ law.)

Things Michael must prove:

1. Gods plan does not want any one saved (Hebrews 9:13-14)

2. Jesus was a liar and died for no reason (Hebrews 10:9)

3. Michael is not saved because he is a gentile. (1 Corinthians 9:19-21)

I first want to look at Hebrews 10:9

9: then he added, "Lo, I have come to do thy will." He abolishes the first in order to establish the second. (RSV)

I think Michael will agree with me that this passage is talking about the laws or testaments.

First Law= the old law/testament

Second Law = the new law/testament

Questions for Michael:

1. What does it mean by abolish?

2. If I have my rights as a United States citizen abolished does that mean I still have part of my rights?

3. Does this not abolish all of the Law?

Galatians 5:2-4

2: Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.

3: I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law.

4: You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.

Shown here in these passages is where people were trying to do what my friend Michael is doing, they were trying to take a part of the Old Law/Testament (circumcision) and bring it into the New Law/Testament.

As we see from the passage if we try to do this, two things will happen:

1. Christ will be of no advantage to you which means

a) His church has no head (Ephesians 1:22-23)

b) He has no blood (John 19:29)

c) No Holy Spirit (John 7:39)

d) No high priest (Hebrews 8:4)

e) No Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36)

f) No Testament (Hebrews 9:16)

g) No preaching of Christ (Matthew 16:20)

I) No faith in the resurrection (Luke 24:11)

j) No thrown (Acts 2:30-31)

k) No redemption (Hebrews 9:15)

l) No complete gospel (1 Corinthians 5:1-4)

m) No salvation (Hebrews 5:8-9)

New testament Church Passages Michaels Church
Has a head Eph. 1:22-23 Has no head
Has the blood of Christ John 19:29 doesn’t have the blood of Christ
Has the Holy Spirit John 7:39 Has no Holy Spirit
Has Christ as the High Priest Heb. 8:4 Has a no High Priest
Has a Lord and Christ Acts 2:36 Has no Lord and Christ
Has the new testament Heb.9:16 Has no testament
Has the preaching of Christ Matt.16:20 Cant have preaching of Christ
Has faith in the resurrection Luke 24:11 Has no faith in the resurrection
Has Christ on his thrown Acts 2:30-31 Has no thrown
Has a complete gospel 1cor.15:1-4 Has no complete gospel
Has salvation in Christ Heb.5:8-9 Has no salvation
Has redemption in Christ in Christ Heb. 9:15 Has no redemption

So you can either stay with Michael and his church which has none of these or, you can go to the church of the New Testament (The Church of Christ Romans 16:16) and, have all of these.

In a debate that Michael had had previously with Patrick Donahue, Michael said “Patrick is 100% correct that if you are trying to earn your salvation by keeping the Torah you are fallen from grace.” I agree with that 100%. Why? Because, none of us keep the torah.”

Questions for Michael:

1. According to this quote why are you debating on if the Torah is binding?

2. Then would you agree 100% with the chart?

I want to look at some things on my chart.

1. No Lord and Christ: Acts 2:36 “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

2. No Testament: Hebrews 9:16 “For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established.”(ESV)

Notice it says will not law this passage is talking about what god gives you through the death of Christ.

Question for Michael: What is the gift that god is going to give us because Jesus died?

3. His church has no head: Ephesians 1:22-23 “And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

Michael’s church is like a chicken with its head cut off.

4. No redemption: Hebrews 9:15 “Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.”

5. No salvation: Hebrews 5:8-9 “Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him.”

6. And one that wasn’t on the chart, No remission of sins: Matthew 26:28 “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

Michael you can’t even have justification or salvation if you don’t turn from this false doctrine!

2. You will be bound by the WHOLE Law
Michael doesn’t want to take the whole Law though he just wants parts of it.

Question for Michael: what parts of the Old Law are done away with and, why?

Also, according to Michael’s doctrine God is not all powerful, because God sent his son down to the earth so that all men both Jew and Gentile could be saved under the New Law/Testament. Simply because the Old Law/Testament was only for the Jews, but God’s New Law isn’t perfect enough for my friend because he still has to have parts of the Old Law.

What about Matthew 5:17

17"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

Example: If a dad tells his boy he is going to take his boy to the park after work and he does. Then the next day after work his boy says can we go to park today you said we could go to the park yesterday. The dad has fulfilled the promise by taking his boy to the park and, he didn’t abolish it because if he had they would not have went to the park at all.

Question for Michael: does this mean he has to the park every day?

Gal.6:2 – “Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”

Question for Michael: What is the “law of Christ”?

2 Corinthians 3

 3. Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

 4. And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

 5. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

 6. Who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

 7. But if the ministration of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

 8. How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

 9. For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

 10. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.

 11. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

 12. Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

 13. And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:

 14. But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

 15. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.

 16. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

 17. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

 18. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Questions for Michael: What does it say in verse 6?

(a) Ministers of the Old Testament and New Testament

(b) Ministers of the New Testament and parts of the Old Testament

(c) Ministers of the New Testament

Question for Michael: What does it mean in verse 11 “that which is done away with?

Question for Michael: Do you have a veil over your heart (verse 15-16)?

Romans 6:14 – “For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”

Question for Michael: What are we under?

a) The Law

b) Grace

Last thing I what to say is Heb.10:9 then he added, "Behold, I have come to do your will." He abolishes the first in order to establish the second.

Myles Davis
